Coaches · Training design
Plan the problem, not the drill.
Start with a match decision, preserve the information players need, and choose one useful constraint.
Name the match problem
Be specific: progress against a compact block, defend an overload, create width after regaining the ball, or finish when the box is crowded.
Preserve the information
- Direction and a way to score
- Teammates, opponents, space, and realistic pressure
- A transition or restart that keeps the target moment returning
Adjust one constraint
Change field width, numbers, restarts, or scoring rules to make the target behavior more likely. If players cannot see the problem, simplify before adding instruction.
Coach between repetitions
- What information did you notice?
- What option became available when the shape changed?
- What will you try on the next repetition?
