Review a match without turning it into a grade.
Use three short prompts to notice decisions, choose an action, and leave the game behind.
Let the emotion settle
A car ride immediately after the match is rarely the best analysis room. Eat, hydrate, and give the first emotional response time to soften before reviewing anything.
The three-prompt review
- One decision I am glad I made was…
- One action I want to repeat or adjust this week is…
- One question I want to ask or investigate is…
Keep evidence separate from judgment
- Name the moment: time, location, teammates, opponents, and choice.
- Describe what happened without calling the whole performance good or bad.
- Choose an action that can be practiced, noticed, or discussed.
Close the review
Once the next action is clear, stop. Replaying every touch does not create more learning. The player should be able to return to the rest of life without carrying the match all day.
